A Port Orange woman died early
Friday, about two hours after she walked
out of the Daytona Beach Police Department and was then hit by a pickup. Kimberly J. Staton, 36, of Port Orange was pronounced dead at 12:10 am. at Halifax Health Medical Center where she was taken following the crash at 10:18 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The crash occurred on Williamson Boulevard near Valor Boulevard, which is the entrance to the police department. Ormond Beach police first encountered
Staton about 12:40 pm Thursday when she was found passed out in a bathroom
and was rushed to Ormond Memorial Hospital, Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said.

Daytona Beach police received a call about an unruly intoxicated person at the
hospital just before 6:30 p.m. That person was Staton, who was cleared by the hospital to leave, Flynt said. Although Staton didn't face any criminal charges, she
was taken to the police station because she was too intoxicated to be released on her
own, he said.
At 10 pm, Staton was allowed to leave, Flynt said.
According to an accident report, Staton ran across Williamson Boulevard, in a
construction area, right into the path of a pickup driven by Robert W. Fowler of Port
Orange. Fowler was traveling at tile posted speed limit of 45 mph and was unable to
stop in time to avoid hitting the woman, police said.
No charges have been filed in the crash

Just as Biketoberfest begins in Central Florida, a motorcyclist is critically injured after plowing into a tree and being hit by another motorcycle

The man, 45-year-old Juan Partridge, was injured at 11 p.m. on State Road 44 at Lake
Winnemissett Drive, about a half-mile west of Interstate 4.

Partridge hit the fallen tree, which obstructed the entire westbound lane and was then ejected from the motorcycle. Another motorcyclist swerved to avoid the tree and drove over Partridge.

The motorcyclist remains at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

Early arrivals and fully booked hotels paint positive picture for Biketoberfest

More than the arriving bikers have a smile on their faces about Biketoberfest, the winter motorcycle event in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Organizers and tourism officials are pointing to some key indicators as reasons this year's event could buck the economic slowdown experienced by both motorcycle events and tourist destinations.

Officially kicking off on Thursday October 15th, the four-day event had an impressive, although sentimental early start over the weekend with the Boggy Creek Camp Ride for Children. Usually led by Bruce Rossmeyer, many attended the event to pay respect to a man widely considered the largest owner of Harley-Davidson dealerships and who died on his way to Sturgis in July earlier this year.

A crash involving two motorcycles in Flagler County left an Ohio man hospitalized in serious condition

Kent Bundenthal, 48, was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach after the 7:30 p.m. wreck Saturday, troopers said. A nursing supervisor said he was in serious but stable condition Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 100 and Old Kings Road when Christopher Keohane, 21, Daytona Beach, who was heading west, slowed for a yellow traffic signal. Bundenthal, who was on a motorcycle behind Keohane, didn't see the bike slowing for the light, troopers said.

Bundenthal rear-ended Keohane, causing both bikes to overturn. Keohane suffered only minor injuries. Neither man was wearing a helmet, the FHP said.

Alcohol was not thought to be a factor in the crash.
