Vernon woman among Panama City crash injuries

PANAMA CITY BEACH- Two people were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Back Beach Road and Hills Road early Thursday morning. According to a crash report from the Panama City Beach Police Department, Jamison Thomas-Earl Wood was intoxicated when he crashed into the rear of two motorcycles waiting to turn onto Back Beach Road (U.S. 98) at the stop sign on Hills Road. Matthew Tomasello, 24, of Mattoon, Ill., and Christie Michelle Anderson, 21, of Gainesville, were thrown from Tomasello's 2009 Kawasaki
motorcycle when they were hit by Wood, the report said. The second motorcycle, driven by Zachary Major, age unknown, of Vernon, and also ridden by passenger Kaitlyn Dover, 18, of
Murrayville, Ga., was struck either by Wood's vehicle or Tomasello's motorcycle.
None of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets. After hitting the motorcycles, police said Wood's vehicle, a 1996 Dodge pickup, continued into the intersection, striking a car traveling
east on Back Beach Road occupied by 21-year-old Wesley Pickenpaugh and 19-year-old Coralanne Embroski, both of Greenwood Circle in Panama City Beach. The car traveled into the
median, where it flipped "one or two times," and landed on its roof, the report said. Wood, 23, of Pinewood Drive in Panama City Beach, had a blood alcohol level of 0.196 and was charged with
driving under the influence, open container, driving with a suspended license, driving with an expired registration and failing to stop at a stop sign.
Tomasello and Pickenpaugh were taken by ambulance to Bay Medical Center. Tomasello's condition was not immediately available and Pickenpaugh was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit.

A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy was hospitalized this morning with a knee injury after being hit by a motorcyclist trying to escape

Deputy Mark Montano was in the area of Ehrlich Road and Winter Wind Drive in Tampa about 10 a.m. and noticed a Suzuki motorcycle that had been reported stolen, sheriff's officials said.

When Montano got out of his cruiser and tried to stop traffic in order to approach the bike, the driver, whom officials identified as George Farmer, drove around the stopped vehicles and ran into Montano.

The impact knocked Montano to his knees and the motorcyclist fled the scene with a female passenger. Montano was transported to University Community Hospital, officials said.

Sheriff's deputies followed the motorcyclist by helicopter into Pasco County, where he quickly dumped the bike in the area of Ryals and Aulbach roads and ran away with his female passenger. Farmer, 43, of 1116 Lane Road in Zephryhills, was eventually found in the area and has been charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, grand theft and felony fleeing and eluding. The female passenger has not been found.

A Bronson woman who was apparently going the wrong way was seriously injured and an Ocala motorcyclist was killed

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened south of Ocala at 12:10 a.m. on U.S. 27/441 north of Southeast 92nd Place Road.

In a crash report prepared by FHP Corporal W. W. Dill, the woman who had been driving a 1998 Suzuki Sidekick was identified as Kimberly Sasser, 42, of Bronson. She was taken to Shands at the University of Florida in serious condition. Her only passenger was identified as Breanna Chitty, 6, also of Bronson, who suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

The motorcyclist was identified by FHP as Charles Linzmeyer, 48, of Ocala who had been driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Linzmeye was pronounced dead at the scene.

FHP crash investigator Corporal B. R. Detweiler determined Sasser had been driving south in a northbound lane of U. S. 27/441 while Linzmeyer was headed north in the same northbound lane. When the two vehicles crashed head-on, Linzmeyer was ejected from the motorcycle and Sasser's Suzuki caught fire.

The troopers determined that Linzmeyer had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but did not know whether Sasser and Chitty had been wearing seat belts.

Charges in the crash are pending the result of blood alcohol testing on the drivers and further investigation.
