Report: Bicyclist injured in hit and run
to cross U.S. 41, when he was struck by a vehicle of an unknown make an model Monday evening, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. A witness said Raymond Earl Hembree,
53, crossed the path of a vehicle on his bike on a red traffic signal, the report shows. The vehicle
reportedly struck the bike's right side, pushing it about 50 feet and throwing Hembree off.
He then landed in the intersection in the right northbound lane.
The vehicle then left the scene, heading northbound on U.S. 41, according to the report.
The report states Hembree initially was taken to
Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers with serious
injuries, but he later was discharged.

"Cyclist dies two days after being hit by van"
A 48-year-old man died Saturday, two days after he was hit by a van while riding his bicycle along Gandy Boulevard in Pinellas County.
Roger Soloman was pronounced dead on Saturday at Bayfront Medical Center. He had been admitted to the hospital following an accident on Thursday.
Accordig to reports, Soloman and Phillip R. Billups, 49, were riding their bikes eastbound along the south side of Gandy Boulevard N shortly before 10 a.m. The men went under the I-275 overpass, then Billups turned and began riding across the eastbound lanes.
Soloman also began crossing the eastbound lanes, but then he made a left turn in front of a eastbound Chevrolet van driven by Christopher Foran, 39, the report said.
Foran hit the brakes and tried to miss Soloman, but was instead rear-ended by a Toyota driven by Vasil Dimitrov, 28, the report said.
Soloman was hit by the van and thrown from his bicycle. Billups, who had retreated to the median, was hit by the Toyota.
Billups was treated at the scene and released.
Neither driver was injured, and no charges have been announced.

A 27-year-old Orange Park bicyclist was fatally injured Wednesday, Aug. 12, when he was struck by a motorcycle
Anthony Christopher Coulter was declared dead at Orange Park Medical Center following the 10:27 a.m. wreck on Blanding Boulevard near Kingfisher Drive, the Highway Patrol said.
Coulter was southbound on the paved shoulder when he began to go across Blanding Boulevard from west to east and was struck by a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Temaus S. Wade Jr., 25, of Orange Park, the Highway Patrol said.
The report says Wade, who suffered serious injuries, was exceeding the posted speed limit as he traveled southbound and was changing to the left lane as he approached slower traffic when the accident happened, the report says.
Both drivers were ejected by the impact. Wade was taken to Shands Jacksonville for treatment, the report says.
