VOLUSIA COUNTY
Police: Car runs red light, kills man
A 56-year-old Port Orange motorcyclist was killed Sunday when a car ran a stoplight near
Daytona Beach and drove into his path, the Florida Highway Patrol said. William Lee
Hughes was northbound on Tomoka Farms Road about 3:35p.m. when a 2007 Chevrolet
driven by Lakecia Harris, 31, of DeLand, ran the light as she drove west on International
Speedway Boulevard, troopers said. The BMW motorcycle hit the left front fender of the
Chevrolet, the highway patrol said. Hughes, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the
bike. Harris sustained minorinjuries.
