"Bicyclist, 84, in critical condition after accident involving police vehicle"

ST. PETERSBURG --
An unmarked St. Petersburg Police vehicle hit and seriously injured a bicyclist about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday.
This is what police say happened:
Benjamin Kincaid, 84, was riding a bicycle northbound in the bike lane in the 100 block of 37th Street North.
A 2008 Ford Crown Victoria unmarked police vehicle being driven by on-duty St. Petersburg Police Officer Lenard Cox was traveling northbound in the 100 block of 37th Street North.
Officer Cox saw Kincaid riding his bicycle slightly ahead of him in the bicycle lane. As Officer Cox approached the intersection of 2nd Avenue North, police said Kincaid made an abrupt left turn.
Officer Cox swerved to the left in an attempted to avoid the collision, but the right front of the vehicle collided with the left side of the bicycle.
Kincaid, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bicycle onto the roadway. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition. Officer Cox was not injured.
