Man seriously hurt in crash that killed one

POLICE BEAT Man seriously hurt in crash that killed one A Gainesville man was seriously injured in a head-on collision Wednesday night that left another driver dead. The Florida Highway Patrol said Michael David Delp. 49. was taken to Shands at the University of Florida following the 8:23 p.m. crash on State Road 40 at Northeast 231st Street. The name of the Daytona driver killed in the crash was not being released Thursday morning because the driver's relatives had not been notified. FHP Cpl. Susan M. Barge said Delp was driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup west on SR 40. The other driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was in a 2011 Dodge Caliber headed east on SR 40. Barge said one of the drivers apparently crossed the double yellow line in the center of the roadway but that it could not immediately be determined which driver made the mistake. An investigation was continuing Thursday. — Karen Voyles Gainesville Sun Alachua County March 18, 2011
