"Deputy injured during charity event"

A Polk County deputy was injured in a St. Petersburg crash during a charity motorcycle ride for three fallen officers Sunday.

According to reports, Deputy Steven Neil hit another bike when it changed lanes in front of him on 1st Ave. S., east of 34th St. N.

The deputy was transported to Bayfront Medical Center. Neil was wearing a helmet and is expected to be released Monday.

No one else was injured.

Police determined that the other motorcyclist involved was at fault and they were issued a citation.

More than 1,000 motorcyclists raised money for the families of the fallen officers.

A block party and a concert at Jannus Live drew thousands more to the city.

This is the third year Bubba the Love Sponge has hosted his Bubba's Bikes for Badges Charity Motorcycle Ride.

A portion of the proceeds raised from all of the events will benefit the families of Sgt. Thomas Baitinger, Jeffrey Yaslowitz, and David Crawford, who were all killed in the line of duty this year.
